The Real Smoothie King: The Air Conditioner

While my funny honey is big on the charm, his culinary skills skew more towards the take-out counter of Au Bon Pain. But, there is one area in the kitchen where he truly reigns supreme: the blender. Dave makes smoothies like they are his job and he is looking to get a raise. They are sooo good. He even gets me to eat fruits, which, blended together with ice cream, are actually pretty ok. He'll be offering some of his favorite smoothies here, in a column I'm calling "The REAL Smoothie King."*

THE AIR CONDITIONER

INGREDIENTS:
1 frozen banana
2 handfuls of frozen strawberries, pineapple, raspberries, mangos
1 scoop Vanilla Ice Cream
Orange Juice
Oatmeal
Rum

DIRECTIONS:
Place frozen banana and other assorted fruit into blender. (While you can get frozen packages of assorted fruit, it's best to freeze the whole banana, and then cut it open when you need it. By cutting it vertically and then horizontally with a large knife, the peel should come right off.)
Add scoop of vanilla ice cream. (You can also add vanilla extract.)
Add orange juice to achieve desired thickness.
Cover with oatmeal. (This balances out the acidity of the fruits. Granola works here too.)
Add rum or other assorted choice drinks as desired.
Blend.
Makes 3-4 glasses.

*Note: This so-called blog has no relation to any kind of juice bar which may or may not refer to itself as the monarch of smoothies. Also, I don't think this should count as copyright infringement because I didn't even know there was another Smoothie King. Also, Dave's smoothies are better. And free. For me.

  1. Oh yay! Dave smoothie recipes.... Also, I think it's funny that you didn't know there was a Smoothie King. I can think of the locations of at least three in Nashville off the top of my head. I guess it's a southern king. Hooray for a Kendall food blog.

  2. There are a lot of those regional things that throw me. Like, I don't care what people in California say, that Jack-in-the-Box guy is the most terrifying thing I've ever seen. Enjoy the recipes!
